Preparing for your Colonoscopy in Mission Viejo

If you were born around or before 1975, you are at the age where doctors recommend   colonoscopy screening. This is a procedure to examine the colon and rectum for precancerous polyps. . Most patients are confirmed to be in good health, meaning they won’t need to have another colonoscopy for 10 years. You may be wondering, “Where can I get a colonoscopy in Mission Viejo?” If you live in southern California, the answer is: right here! The OC Colorectal Clinic has two offices in beautiful Orange County, California: one in Mission Viejo, and one in Laguna Hills.

Before Your Appointment

In the preceding two days before your appointment, you should avoid eating foods that can irritate your gastrointestinal tract. We (sadly) recommend that you take a break from spicy favorites like salsa, curry, and jalapeños on those days. For beverages, stick to water if you can. Staying well hydrated is not only good for you, it also helps the doctors performing your colonoscopy do their job more easily.  Our office will provide you with detailed instructions about diet and of course, your bowel preparation.

Plan for Time Off

A colonoscopy is a medical procedure that requires only one day off of work for most people.

Let Someone Help You Get Home

You will be given a sedative to ease the discomfort that may occur during the procedure. You won’t feel or remember anything about it, except that you had a nice nap. The sedative can take about a day to completely get out of your system, so it is essential to relax after your procedure and avoid driving or working.   When you schedule your colonoscopy in Mission Viejo, also remember to arrange for a friend or relative to pick you up and take you home afterward.

We’re Here to Help

As medical professionals, we take the health and privacy of our patients very seriously. A trip to the doctor’s office shouldn’t have to be embarrassing or scary. Many of our patients have left reviews letting us know they appreciate the care Dr. Jenkins showed them, not only as patients, but also as people.
